Proxy setting problem

Hello Sir, my laptop was running fine just yesterday until I bought a book on Amazon Kindle site and tried to download it which failed to download. But unfortunately just after that my proxy LAN setting got disconnected. And since then even after resetting the proxy address the connection goes off no matter how many times I reset the address. The proxy address remains address less even after setting the address. I am in serious trouble as I could not stay connected to the LAN for less then 5 seconds. Any help would be most gracious.

What operating system is there? Is it Linux/Windows or Mac? Have you changed recently before downloading the book? Is proxy settings checkbox suddenly greyed out. Also is this a wired/wireless network connection. What you can do open network troubleshooter by right clicking the network icon in the notification area (task bar), & then clicking troubleshoot problems and follow on screen instructions to get some help. However more information is needed.

Thank you so much for taking your time to look into my problem. The previous problem has been resolved but another problem has remained. That is, i am still connected to the internet but the network icon shows unconnected. I am using LAN wired connection.

This is an old problem that can be occurred on Linux OS. I faced the same problem (SuSE) in several times. Just reboot your system and unplug the LAN wire from port then again insert the same in another port / same port (check the lights are on) . This may help to resolve the issue. But don't worry, you can surf the internet even it shows the cross sign/ not connected symbol. You can check the physical status or link status of interface(s) by using this commands link,

    ifplugstatus

    Or

ifplugstatus eth0 - (by default eth0 is the first interface)

    Or

    ip link show

    Hope this helps you,
