Is there other version of MS Office installed prior/ not even removed completely? Check if there is a windows installer (.msi file) and if yes, first try to uninstall the file. Then try to reinstall the version of Office. Make sure the version which is you mentioned, removed completely and there is no leftover file(s) on the system. Now try to reinstall the version that you wanted.

You may want to boot the computer in safe mode before removing the old 2010 version. There are sometimes pieces of an application that are active and will not get removed it the system boots normally. These are thing like an auto update feature and such.. Report back if you are still having issues and with any new error messages you get

You many also want to run a good registry cleaner after uninstalling and rebooting the computer. Microsoft is known for leaving bits' and pieces of their programs and patches in the registry even after they have been uninstalled. You need to make sure that all of the old App has been removed before attempting to install a new, other wise the new App will fail to install.
