When you insert the product key during the installation process, it will tell you if it is valid or not. If it tells you that it is not a valid key, verify that you entered it correctly. If this is the case and it has been entered correctly, then you will have to work with Microsoft Licensing to get it validated correctly. If you purchased it, as a download from Microsoft, then and Microsoft says that it is not valid then, as long as you have the documentation from Microsoft, it is not an issue, and they will issue a new one. If you purchased it else where, then you will have to work with the vendor where you purchased it to get a valid one. I have included a link for phone number to use for software validation.
