I am scrapping my ThinkPad with a core i5 and my new IdeaPad only has a core i3. Is it worth swapping the processors over?

Not sure how much improvement you would see not know the rest of the specs. Are the motherboards compatible, how much memory type and speed from old to new, what is the bus speed. Are the drives the same type and speed (HD or SSD). Also it can be tricky if you have never done it before.

I was wondering the exact same thing as ToddN2000. Are the sockets the same for the processors? If not there is no real point in doing it. Even more so are the systems boards compatible?

Why did you purchase an IdeaPad the was actually a downgrade processor wise? Does it offer any features that better than your old ThinkPad? Without knowing more on the specific specs of each device like amount of ram (type and speed), video (integrated or dedicated memory, amount and speed), storage (regular HD or SSD). I am looking to replace my old laptop that's 7 years old with an i3 processor. It's just to slow for my current needs.

I bought the T410 second hand and had loads of bother with it (which I now realize was more my ineptitude rather than the fault of the machine) so I decided to buy new this time but couldn't afford to buy a new ThinkPad, so I again settled for second best. I now have the T410 doing nothing and I thought it might be a good idea to swap the processors to try and speed the IdeaPad up a bit
