Powering a DC device with batteries

LED Light
Okay, so I have a strip of 5050 led lights that is asking for 12vdc at 2amp. Where I intend on using the lights there is no electrical service. I am trying to make a diy battery pack so to speak for the led lights. I'm no electrician but I have figured 8 1.5v AA batteries will male the 12v needed but unsure of amps as batteries like that are measured in amp hours. I'm trying to run the lights during the night with a photo cell so they turn on automatically at night but will need them to run all night. Maybe implement a 24w solar panel. Not sure. Any and all ideas are welcome.
