Hi community, I need to deploy a cloud service that will deliver web services to small and medium sized enterprises in my country. These web services will have e-commerce capabilities and will provide SMEs with web presence, e-commerce abilities and online advertising/marketing. I don't know what platform (hardware/software) to choose. What options are available?  I need to be cost effective without compromising on power and I need a platform that I can expand as market adoption grows. In phase 1 I am looking at no less than 5,000 SMEs. I would really appreciate your views and advice. Thank you.

You better find cloud service provider that offer SaaS based cloud solutions with auto-scalability. So you can upgrade or downgrade resources according to the requirements. It would help you to stay on the cost effective side.

A cloud service is any resource that is provided over the Internet. The most common cloud service resources are software as a service/ saas,  platform as a service/ paas, and infrastructure as a service/ iaas. Now you did not mention that what kind of cloud services require. For concept & some useful info, please navigate here:

Look for SaaS providers and read the reviews of these companies. It's surprising to see some of the issues companies complain about once they make the decision and invest their budget. It's hard to go back and say we made a bad choice. The best bet is get impartial review from other sites. Not the site you are looking into. I just think of the issue Amazon was having on customer reviews on companies that were done to boost sales that were not valid, but done by the company them selves.
