PDF or TIFF file to DWG

I use 2013 AutoCAD LT and am a novice user. I was sent PDFs and TIFF files by a client and need to use them in CAD, if can insert the PDF, but it does not appear that I can calculate square footage, etc. Is that right or do I need to purchase a converter. Thanks
