It’s always a good idea to have a good anti virus program. Kapersky is a good one as well as Malwarebytes, Norton and Webroot.  There are some free versions but they may lack some important features like real time protection, and other types of issues like keyloggers, rootkeys they scan for. A paid for antivirus, like Kapersky and others offer a bit more security. I think it’s worth the cost when you read about all the problems affecting systems today. The paid programs may have more current database used for protection where the free ones update the virus definition databases less frequently.

Impossible to say if you need either one. What type of device is it? What is the OS? What is it used for? (By whom? How often?)

Generally one or the other would be active. The inactive one might be run to do scans and could catch things that the active one missed.

Why did you keep two anti virus on your system? Is there a special reason?

It's not all that uncommon to run multiple AV programs. I know a few people who run multiple AV programs based on the experience I have fixing their systems. Not all AV programs will catch the same error. You just need to make sure they don't conflict with each other. Some free version do not offer real time protection so that can be another reason for running two. I have had notifications pop up from one program that never triggered an alert with the other. The reason is they both run off of different virus definition databases by their respected companies. They are not in sync so one may have updated for a new threat where the other may not get updated for a few days if at all.

For Kapersky renewal, it depends on your system's configurations. Also depends on what software loaded on this system. One antivirus may work perfectly, if it is configured very correctly. Assuming this is your personal use, If you are sure Windows Defender is configured properly, you can ignore to renew Kapersky. Also two antivirus may cause for slowing down the system.

Another thing to consider is a good firewall application. Stop the threats at the point of entry before they hit your network.

One more thought, if your system getting virus affected, you can try a free tool MWAV which is an emergency anti virus tool. This is completely free, and not necessary to install. Just download & run this tool if the system virus infected.

This an another way & you can save your money.
