My help desk resets passwords through the command line and I would like to write a CL and give them a menu option and take away their command line access. Suggestions? (I am not a 400 guy)

Hi,

You can write a simple CL to reset a user’s password using selective prompting to allow only the change of password, expiry and status :-

PGM

CHGUSRPRF ??USRPRF(*N) ??PASSWORD(*N) ??PWDEXP(*N) ??STATUS(*N)
MONMSG CPF0000

ENDPGM

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

The person making the change will need *SECADM authority to change the user profiles. You could change the program to be owned by a user with *SECADM and to use *OWNER authority. And the help desk will need the authority to use the program to begin with. Call the program from a menu option will eliminate the need for a command line. We use something similar to allow the IT Specialist in each office to reset or re-enble accounts of people in thier own offices.. (we have offices accross the country). The help desk is right out of the loop. Regards Mike
