P2V 2 Node SQL Cluster into Single VM

Is it possible to P2V the Active Node of a 2-node SQL cluster , then break the SQL Cluster and use 1 single Virtual Machine? We are planning to shutdown both SQL nodes and capture an image of the primary node offline using Acronis, then restore the image to a Virtual Machine in a vSphere 6.0 environment. On the destination virtual machine, would SQL still work properly if the cluster configuration is removed? Thanks!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi rwallace612,

It is preferable to break the cluster before, then convert the active node to a VM. Steps on breaking SQL cluster can be found here.

Though if you want to convert the active node to a VM using Acronis, you need to add the NICs and assign the same IP addresses of the old physical machine in order to have one node active (virtual) and passive physical, and then break the cluster after the conversion.

Hope this helps!
