Outlook 2007 Excessive file size

I am running Outlook 2007 and have, and would like to keep, lots of e-mails from customers, vendors, etc. Some of them have large attachments. I have exceeded the max on the .pst file. Normally I would select some old e-mail with large attachment and use :Shift delate: to reducce the size od the .pst file. Something new has happened...Shift delete will not work. Any ideas? I'm running Windows XP. Since I am not getting e-mails I will watch my iPhone. Thanks!

I can understand the need to save information – but always wonder how email has become such a hoarding problem. If there is correspondence that you need to hang onto, would it be possible for you to use the PC to hold the bulk for you? Those attachments could be moved over to file folders, leaving your pst file with spare room. Not the answer you are probably looking for, but perhaps something to think about to prevent issues down the road.

There is a possibility the pst is corrupt at some level. Run scanpst and try again.

    Do you get an error message when using shift-delete ? How about deleting (without shift) and then deleting the mails again from the deleted items folder ? As for exceeding the max pst file size, the Unicode format for PST files introduced in Outlook 2003 doesn't have the 2 GB size limitation.     You could also save the older e-mails to an archive folder, which would reduce the size of the .pst file.
