Yes, if you have some SQL (the language, not SQL Server) knowledge it will surely help you.

The first thing I would recommend would be to download the express edition of Oracle Database 10g, which is completely free. Then you can start learning from the documentation library which includes interesting courses such as “2 day DBA” and “2 day Developer Guide”, among others.

It is better that, if you have to do oracle certification i.e. OCP…. It has two parts one for Application Developer and other is Database Administrator (DBA). This is absolutely a global cert and you may get good jobs also. Other than there r so many certification in the same field like SQL Server or MySQL Server and so on. But must do a global certification. Rest just googling and you get all of the details!

Dear Prcvjr when u will enroll for OCP or other global certs, the study center provides entire materials and maximum guidance. I think these r sufficient for getting certs with good marks and grade..... As my case, those study materials which provides by vendor is more than enough to pass and gather huge knowledge. That doesn't mean that u don't go for additional materials !

Knowing "SQL" is not the same as knowing more than one platform. Every platform has its own extensions and proprietary elements. By learning another platform, you see how a laguage such as SQL applies in different environments. You see the parts of SQL that are closer to the standards and recognize parts that are non-standard. By see how a different platform solves particular problems, you can see ways of reaching solutions that you might not have thought of before. If you have the opportunity to learn Oracle, take it. Tom
