I have several Microsoft Excel files that my a co-worker from another department sent (and there are passwords on several of them). The ones without the password I was able to open easily. But the ones with the password - there's no way to open them. The box to enter the password is not appearing. What should I do?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

So, what happens when you open them? A company called Elcomsoft has some very handy tools for determining MS Office passwords in situations like this.

"Co-worker" somewhat implies that a supervisor or manager might also be available. Such questions should be handled at that level or higher.

Have you disabled add-ons on Excel? You can try to disable all add-ons (later you can enable them) and open the same file to check if the password box appears. Assuming you know the password.

Do you have issues with any other protected spreadsheets? Are the in question on a shared network server? Check out a possible fix here on the Microsoft Forum
