What do you want to achieve to ask this question? No. of switch is not depend on ERP or non-ERP system. Basically it depends on how you design. As you asked for Ring Topology, & if you desire to use Ethernet then you should first be aware of the issues of using Ethernet with a ring architecture. Ethernet is traditionally thought of as a bus/ star topology. Is it your office? Is there system admin person? Cost of switch(s) also depends on budget. However more information is required.

I have to design the network where I shall have more than 140 switches  all in different locations , all in outdoor environment so industrial grade switches shall be used , It cannot be in star topology because of geographical conditions , I am planning to have 5 distribution switches and industrial grade switches shall be connected in ring with distribution switch .
Multiple rings will be required so want to know how many rings per distribution switch shall be suitable and and each ring should have how many industrial grade switches , actually this networking will be deployed for IP CCTV surveillance.
