Ok, no one has a crystal to tell the future of what and where the IT field is going.  Where I work, due to the formation of the cloud, there are many NECs that are downsizing and most of their data is going to a regional location.  That location will gain in personnel and equipment to be able to handle the growth.  On that same note, the data that is held at that location for its customers will be transferred to the next tier up.

A couple of years ago, no one saw this coming, and now those personnel that are in those smaller areas are out looking for jobs, but it is the way of the ever changing field in the IT world.  Better ways to do things with the use of fewer people.  This is not only happening in the corporation world but also the DOD world.

Learn your trade, know your trade, be diverse in your trade and also learn more and never stop learning.  If you get complacent, then you may be looking at getting replaced.
