No EPP in Windows 7?

I have built a CNC router and have a GeckoDrive G540 4 axis controller that requires a parallel port in EPP mode, it will not work in ECP. I have set the BIOS to EPP but Windows 7 shows a ECP port. I have installed the "Standard" port driver and it does not work either. Is there a way to get Windows 7 to recognize what the BIOS is set to and install the correct EPP driver? If I were to re-install Windows 7 would it see the settings in the BIOS and install the EPP driver or do I have to change operating systems? I don't understand why this is such an issue. I am using Windows 7 32 bit, which by the way is another requirement of the G540 controller.

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 7 32 bit, Gecko G540, Parallel port, EPP
