New hard drive isn’t being recognized on boot process

Hi, I installed a new sata 320G hard drive on to my laptop Dell E6420, but at the boot process its not recognizing anything. It keeps telling me to press any button and then when it tries to boot at the top right corner it says press F12 before going back to beginning point. I pressed F12 and ran a diagnostics test and everything is cool and has a green box with a white tick in it except for the hard drive. I've been waiting for the thorough test to finish for over an hour now. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong with my laptop?

We need more info on what you did. Simply "replacing" the hard drive on a PC or laptop is not sufficient to get the system running again. Numerous additional steps must be done.

Please list the actual steps you took, including how you formatted the drive, installed an OS, etc.

Who installed hdd on the laptop you or other person! If you installed so, did you know all the tricks to install it properly. In bios setup check that if laptop shows this as first boot drive or even it is recognizable. It is better to ask an expert who deals this type of jobs.
