Network Security for Canon printer

My Canon printer stopped scanning and faxing. I called Canon and a "diagnostician" told me my network had a csrss.exe.trojan. Numerous Microsoft programs were turned off, many warnings showed up etc.  My computer has been quite slow for a while.  Now Canon wants to sell me a 1-time fix which includes a network shield and guarantee to have everything working.  For $100 more, they offer a year guarantee with unlimited tech support etc.  Is this legit and/or a good idea.  He said the trojan is in the network, not the computer.  I can get my computer fixed at school for free.  Is Canon offering a good service?

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 7, HP computer, Canon Printer

If you have the money, and don't have the knowledge/experience to deal with those issues, it might be a good idea to pay someone to take care of them for you (not sure if Canon is a good choice though).

Some of the things they told you don't make much sense to me.  What is 'the trojan is in the network, not the computer' supposed to mean?

If you want to devote some time, have it fixed at school (or format it and reinstall the OS) and make sure to install some anti-virus (there are some free options that offer a good level of protection).
