I am currently a final year student studying forensic computing. i was hoping someone could give me some information regarding network forensics, i would like to know if there is a need for development in this area, what is the current views on networking with regards to gathering of forensic data over a network, and forensic analysis of network activity?
also are there any correct step/procedures that need to followed when carrying out a network forensic investgiation?
There's a lot to know about becoming a forensics specialist. I'd recommend checking out the ISFCE which offers a widely-recognized certification in this area.
Just proceed with caution...apparently some people have the idea that computer forensics examiners should be licensed PI's. Just like any other degree (i.e. M.D.), license (i.e. P.I.), or certification (i.e. CISSP) - none of them mean you're all of a sudden going to know your stuff and provide quality services.
Read up more about what you can do to improve yourself here that will help you stand out above the noise.
Being a student and taking all of the needed courses is one thing. Experience is what counts. Before you take all of these courses and get your certifications, find a job where you can actually get some hands on, then go for the certification track that best suites your desire. There are many directions that you can go and you might wind up either getting burned out or disgusted when trying to learn everything at once. Get experience.....
