So you have a total of 1,000 DVDs & Blu-ray discs and want to save them without replacing or buying new additions; which is more beneficial to store my movies a TB External Hard drive or an NAS storage device?

It depends on how you are going to use them after they are copied. If you are going to have a single PC Accessing the storage the the external TB storage is the way to go. If you want to share this on a network then go the NAS route. The NAS take a little more set up and maintenance. Copying Blu-Ray disks will eat up a large chunk of that external disk. My rips were around 25g per movie.  DVD are a lot less and if you have some compression software you can get a DVD under 1g.

External HDD is more easy choice.

One more thing is that, you can consider cloud based storage system. There are both like free and cost, whichever is suitable for your requirements.
