I want to create a matric number of student. I declare a matric unique and type varchar but when I put these matric number uil/ibs2015/0165 and uil/ibs2015/0166, it displays an error as duplicate matric number.

    Is that the field/column the primary key for the table? Generally, primary key has to be unique in order to identify a specific record. If yes, it is needed to add another column to act as primary key. It is better using an auto generated numeric PK anyway. Assuming you are adding data by Insert statement.
