What model phone? A phone still drains the battery when in stand by mode waiting for a call. Depending on what apps you may have running that will also drain the battery faster. Lastly, depending on how old the phone is, it may not hold the charge as long when it was new. After a few years the batteries charge less and less.

Samsung Note 4 which is one year old. The battery charge full and soon remains empty after 30 minutes.

One sign I have found that a battery is going bad is it takes less time to reach a full charge. How long does it take to reach a full charge? Also sometimes if you use a rapid charger, they can sometimes damage the battery or if there was a power failure during a charge cycle.

Of course, running the phone with the GPS and wireless enabled will drain things pretty quickly. Depending on your version of Android, you should be able to go into your settings, battery settings, and view the battery use details which will show you which parts of the OS and which apps are using the most. Sometimes it's a poorly-written app that causes this. Outside of that, I'd just buy a new battery and be done with it. When you do, be sure to charge the battery periodically throughout the day as that's better for it than letting it get empty and charging it fully every night or so.

Before change the battery, try to delete all unnecessary apps from your phone. Always clear memory cache/ memory through built-in mobile mechanism. Don't use any other 3rd party tool to boost up/ optimize your phone. They are not so good (and very very few are working properly). Keep minimum icons on your phone's desktop/ keep very necessary icons. After that give full charge while switch off mode. When the battery shows 100%, switch on and observe if any improvement or not. If not, you can replace original battery from a authorized store/ service center.

If you want to save your android phone battery you can use a battery saver app. This type of battery saver app extends your battery life up to 50%.
