Hi, for gaming on console, and using a PC as a general PC (non gaming). Will I need to purchase a gaming monitor or would a standard PC monitor do the job? Also, what specs would I look out for?

That depends on game's resolution that can a monitor supports. In general a standard monitor can support almost all games, if you have a good graphic card like GeForce etc. But motherboard/CPU processor must supports the same. You did not reveal the configuration of your device. If possible, please come back with more details.

Most monitors are good for gaming. You just want one with a high refresh rate. Mine is a Samsung monitor with a 2ms refresh rate. No problems with anything.
