I'm in the process of creating PowerPoint templates for my organization. Whenever I open one of these files, it's default file name is "Presentation1, Presentation2, Presentation3, etc. I need to change these - can I do that?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

That is the default / blank templae used to open when a new presentation is created. Renaming the default may cause the problem to glitch or it may possibly get added back on an update. When done with your presentation, click FILE > Save As  then add you name for identifying it. You can also save this a a template and then when creating a new one you would open it or click FILE > NEW and select a templae to be used.

This is a Windows feature. In a Windows program, clicking on a file name makes the Save As file name field inherit when it clicked on. To prevent this, don't click on a file name while using Save As. You may change the file name by renaming.
