I have a small office of 7 computers(XP Pro) and a server(Windows 2000) runing exchange 5.5 i have resently reloaded two of these computers and install sp2, for some reason these computers keep losing exchange, if the system is idle for a few minutes and try to open MS outlook (2003) I get a message that exchange is not available, first I had these set for DHCP from a Router, then I switch them to static but I get the same thing, I will always have to reboot these computers a few times to be able to connect to the exchange server, any ideas?

U said u have installed sp2 in 2 machines.when u install sp2 by default firewall will b enabled.
once the firewall is enabled u cannot access any pc in the network.
so got to network connections & disable t firewall.

hope this will solve u’r problem.

    Your problem is not the firewall being turned on. Your problem is the compatibilty between Exchange 5.5 and Outlook 2003. You should either be using an earlier version of Outlook or a newer version of Exchange. Making one of these two changes will fix your problem. WM

    It is a known thing that outlook 2003 will give problems with exchange 5.5 server. There are some fixes given by Microsoft. the problem you described seems to be that of the information store problem. If you check your application log for this error Event ID: 4097 Source: Dr. Watson Description: The application, exestore.dbg, generated an application error. The error occurred on date @ time. The exception generated was c0000005 at address 0042456d (EcDSDNFromSz). Then ypu can fix the problem by downloadint he patch from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9EA49782-26B4-470E-950C-3CDCFDC27211&displaylang=en Thanks.

    make sure your exchange 5.5 is current with all exchange service packs and patches. sp4 is the latest service pack for exchange, but there have been many patches for it after that. also make sure your OS is fully patched. as an option you may consider running outlook2003 in cached mode instead of having it alwayes connected to the server. in cached mode outlook will create a ost file locally on the users computer, and syncronize with the sever at regular intervals. I find it works well this way.

    Hello. As jayaramks said, Check the application's events. If the error concern the store and the MTA, you have to contact microsoft support to have the latest fix after SP4 . Hope this help you. Charles
