Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

It depends on the FTP daemon you are running, but all of them do it. What are you running?

Not sure what you mean by "Daemon" but I will have outside customers that will FTP to my ISeries to get their files and I wanted to publish some kind of warning msg when they establish their session. Can you tell me where & how to found the daemon??

A daemon is a process that runs as a server service on a machine that serves something. It is from the unix world, but applies to windows and iseries as well. I am not sure in what sub-system the ftp daemon runs on iseries. What version are you running? That will help track it down. Essentially, you will be looking for a control/configuration database/file that the ftp service will use for display when a person establishes a session with the ftp daemon on your iseries box. It is quite common to all ftp daemons across all platforms. now that i think about it more, iseries uses the ibm http server which is a port of the apache engine. Look for a file called http.conf. That might get you started. Good luck

What OS? windows or linux/unix? example for windows, see MS KB - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/5be80513-0b69-46fa-80b2-fc753f878a4b.mspx example for linux: Change the default greeting banner in the vsftpd.conf file to make it harder for malicious users to determine the type of system you have. The directive in this file is. ftpd_banner= New Banner Here google your set of OS name and ftp banner ---

I found one way to change the banner on an ISeries FTP server by modifying the message ID TCP120D: WRKMSGF MSGF(QTCP/QTCPMSGF) Option 12" Work with description", position to message ID TCP120D and edit the first level message text to be whatever you want. The problem is that you have only 132 characters to play with. Thanks for your help y'all

Here's a thought on additional text for the message. Try registering an exit program through the registration facility. It could be a CL which sends a message to the job. I've never used the exit point for this kind of a process, but I think it might work.

AFAIK, an exit program isn't appropriate for this task. And I would suggest reworking the text of message ID TCP1222 rather than TCP120D. Tom
