Are you looking for something like password protecting the file ? There is no simple built in feature in Windows currently. You can encrypt it but if you want a password protected file this link has a good step by step on how to do it.

What did you mean m4a secured? Did you try to convert a drm protected video to a plain video? From where did you get this file? either from .NET/from other source?

The file is of a iPhone conversation which is listed as an M4A File and which I saved in a folder in my desk top computer. It plays when I select it.

Then what is your problem? If the file runs well on your desktop, then why did you want to secure it? Is there a special reason behind this issue? You may hide the file by using its property feature.

You could encrypt it as ToddN2000 says or store it in a password-protected zip file.

Moreover, you can use any third party tool to secure the same. Without this you can only hide the file on Windows OS. (you did not mention the OS type). Assuming this is Windows OS, you can try this: http://www.axantum.com/AxCrypt/Default.html

a free to use tool, that may help you.
