How do I create an .LST file?

Answer Wiki

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

What kind of LST file are you looking to create? There are many applications that use that file type like those listed HERE

More importantly is what is this file going to be used for? Just about any program that you can create a file will let you save it with a LST file extension, even image files. Do we need to better understand the need for this format to point you in the right direction to create the proper file.

    A .lst extension generally refers to a list file. It's sometimes an ascii file/ simply a text file. Many applications include one in their install package. But what reference you are trying to create that is not mentioned here. Please provide more details.

    64 bit machine rejects 16 bit file; setup16.exe is mapped into file for   registry key to work 16 bit files in 32 bit internally generated environment;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows-NT\CurrentVersion\NtVdm64\ACMSETUP301]  Used decompiler toget text listing of parameters but have no ability to fill in values like FirstCabinet.....LastCabinet

    Create any file with Notepad (or almost any other text processor or even word processor). Then change the extension to .LST. You then have a .LST file.

    Of course, it possibly won't have whatever effect you are trying to get; but we don't know what you need.

    Since almost any file can have its extension set to .LST, it's really only important what the exact content is. But you haven't given a hint about what content you want, so that's as far as we can go without more info.

    Sometimes, people try to change filename extension by renaming it. Be careful not to rename the extension on .lst files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

     Issue is in every Windows 7 SP1.  Folder SysWOW64 has setup16.exe but no setup16.lst.  Discover *.lst when setup16.exe fails; message  ID's setup16.lst missing.(File/Prod ver given before)
    Used decompiler to pull out the text form. Don't know how to fill in the blanks. This is the form:
    [Params]
    WndMess    = Initializing Microsoft Win32s Setup...
                      WndTitle   = Microsoft Win32s Setup
                      DrvWinClass =
                      LastCabNum =
                      FirstCabNum =
    TmpDirSize = 500
    TmpDirName = mssetup
                      setup16.pdb
    CmdLine    = _mstest 32sinst.mst /C "/S %s %s"
    DrvModName = DSHELL
    From text part of setup16.exe. What is done from here. Need someone to contact who can complete.  The process is to get the system to be 32 bits (my guess using NtVdm64)   That is why registry key maps to setup16.exe. Not an IT person,  This file is hot item,setup16.exe, in Microsoft problem arena. One time support of $500 is not worth it.   Partition and dual boot;  path I want to avoid

    I am not sure but has anyone seen my Oct 30 2:48 PM GMT reply.
    I hd received a system message that an earlier one did not go thru.  There is no message on the 2.48PM reply.  It contained the blank *.LST I was able to get from the decomplied *.exe file

    Thank you

    Larry

    I'm still looking for answer on making an lst file. Is there anyone still in contact on making a *.lst.  Sent out the blank form from decompiling the setup16.exe file.  It appears that my replies are not going out. If anyone gets this please reply Cannot figure out if I am in the loop with anyone in the techtarget domain.

    We see all of your replies. Unfortunately, I have no setup16.exe, so can't help create a setup16.lst.

    Also unfortunately, I also have trouble with replies from time to time. There are at least three questions that I have detailed answers for, but I get an error message whenever I enter any reply for those.

    @LarryOliva: My only other suggestions would be to try and find the file on another computer sunning the same OS and copy it to the same directory. The other would be to open Notepad and save and empty file as setup16.lst in the directory you need.
