Looking to update from SQL7 to 2005

We are looking to upgrade from our version 7 to either 2k or 2005. I would like to just goto 2005 but I am not sure I can "Sell" it to the management. Anyone have some solid reasons to skip 2K and go right to 2005 even though it is bound to have some issues once it is releasd?

According to Microsoft at yesterday’s SQL2K5 launch event, you *can* install 2K5 over the top of version 7. After the installation, the databases will be updated as they come on line rather than having to be migrated offline and the process should be rather short and painless depending on how large your database[s] is[are]. One point was made emphatically clear – run the database consistency checker [DBCC Checkdb] for any corruption before you perform a final backup prior to upgrading to avoid nastiness when 2K5 comes up. If any corruption is found, fix it before proceeding. There is also an upgrade tool which seemed rather thorough and impressive. Run that tool on the server before any upgrade and follow the tips it gives you. If you don’t have the tool you can download it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6107C27A-662C-4319-AFE7-B52D1568C30A&displaylang=en. Good luck!
