SQL Server login problems

I am using Access as a front end to SQL Server 2014 backend database using DSN-less connections to tables and for pass-thru queries. All works fine. I have recently created a second database within the same instance of SQL Server, and believe I have set log in credentials the same for both, but am unable to programatically set up the DSN-less connections to the second database (Tables and views of both are the same). I get the Microsoft Server login error saying 'Connection failed". I am using Windows authentication. Some pointers as to how to trouble shoot this problem would be appreciated.

MS Access, SQLerver 2014, Visual Basic

Thanks Clark.  I will file away your reference in case of future issues but I have now solved the problem.  With someone looking over my shoulder while running some debug routines, we picked out my error - a background table which stored the database name, server name and path (because we have users working in different areas), I actually had a typo in the server name with double backslashes that shouldn't have been there. Removed them and connection worked fine.
Problem solved but thanks again for your interest and suggestion.

That has helped me in the past. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes will see our mistake. We can become oblivious to it.
