QBefore writing the question nothing is illegal ... I am in Saudi Arabia so let me to be concerned about the laws and regulations ..... Again there is no harm to anyone and nothing illegal (if you care so much I could explain in private ) Now let me focus on issue: There is a very simple looking system we are going to deal with , There is a a switch and few terminals ( actually by terminals I mean few end points that user can put a smart cart and do some shopping , this card include the customer id and the time of purchase and amount of purchase ) attached to it , all these terminals ( endpoints are attached to a system having a Linux OS . All the information of all people doing the shopping are going to be sent to this system and probably stored on hard drive ( I am not sure or it might be stored somewhere else , you need to figure it out ) . This system is connect to a database , all these info will be sent to a database ( there is a intranet network) and there , they Will find the number of customer and amount they purchased. Surprisingly this system can operate offline , which means if I cut off the connection all the info will be stored locally and when I connect it to the network the info will be transferred to database. What I want to do is to find out where the data are stored and how can I change it (data stored on my system could be secured somehow). I can provide you with all you need info on the hard drive and whatever you need ...

You mentioned, "Again there is no harm to anyone and nothing illegal". But you asked for changing something on this system. So it is illegal/ harmful if you do change without prior permission from the actual authorities. This is a kind of hacking (just guess). Why won't you asked your system admin person? Why did you want to change something on database/ system? What is your problem?

    Please provide more details.

Note that posting such instructions for you might be reasonable in itself. Unfortunately, this is a public forum that anyone can view. Someone else who has no sense of ethics might be interested in just these instructions for who knows what purpose, perhaps to mess with an employer.
