Does a Link file that contains a file name include the actual document created?
If the Link file contains a network server destination, does it mean the metadata from the file is from the computer used or the network server?

    No, link file just is a reference. However your question is not clear. Did you mean, transforming Library metadata into Linked Library data ?

    Simple way to find out -- disable the network connection, then access the link properties. No need to ask and wait for answers. If the result of an access doesn't make sense, that's the best time to ask others.
