Kronos Pattern Template Changes

If I change a pattern template, I am warned that employees already assigned to a template will not undergo a change to their schedule. Does this mean the only way to change the whole pattern is to create a new template and assign the employees to the new template? Or is there a way to refresh my edited template to existing employees on that template?
