It is completely depends on the IBM company. If u have handsome expertise on the same field, u may consider for coding. See BPO / Voice process associates doesn’t have chance for coding, cause this BPO job only for Customer care rather say for meet various customer queries. So there is no hope for coding ! And u may loose ur coding ability during this time if u make practice at ur home. Is it possible, that u may do a global certification on the same field?? It takes u to high edge and offers handsome pay on the same field.
So, I think if u don’t have monetary problem / other problems, then wait and join in a company which offers u on ur coding field. Though IBM is a big name in IT industry.
After joining, if u do ur work well and u will show interest in coding field, it might be that the said company asks for ur desire position.

Good Luck !

I don't work for IBM, but in my company I started on the help desk. During that time I studied and got certified on the server side of things and when a job came open for a network administrator I applied and was hired by that department in the same company. So at least where I work such a move is quite possible. I have seen many move from service desk to other positions in IT.

I think you could try the helpdesk area for a short time and see if any opportunities come along. You will be exposed to many systems and people. Start building up a relationship with people that you support, and you can eventually find out if there's any areas of the system that involve .Net development. Hope it helps! I also run a website that helps IT professionals improve their IT career. I hope it can help - you can see it at Complete IT Professional.
