Is there a way for the Iseries to respond to an error message without user intervention?

You can use the sytem reply list for this – command is WRKRPYLE – Work with reply list entries. You may need to change the relevant job to INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL).

you can use system reply list for this, but you have to be aware that system reply lists are very basic devices. The only message properties you can specify are message ID and a comparison of the message data. Other message intrinsic or extrinsic properties (e.g., name of job) are beyond the scope of system reply lists.

If you have a need for more sophisticated responses to messages, there are a number of message management solutions on the market, including one from our company, CCSS.

Hi, Another option would be to write a "message monitor" program to receive QSYSOPR messages and send (auto) replies when necessary. Regards, Martin Gilbert.

IBM has done half the work for you.. iSeries Navigator > Management Central > Monitors > Message You can set up a message monitor to monitor QSYSOPR messages. The monitor can be set up to execute a command - which can be as simple as SNDBRKMSG or you could write your own command. There are a bunch of parameter values you can pass to your command - such as &MSGID, &FRMJOBNAME, &FRMUSER, etc. You can find the OS/400 Command Substitution Parameters Here. You also need to make sure the Management Central server is running - STRTCPSVR SERVER(*MGTC) will start it. There are also other monitors - for System, File, Job and B2B. IBM has thoughtfully provided examples of each. Regards Mike

I am not a big fan of auto replies. An error means there is a problem that needs to be addressed. If it's something like member full, change the PF size. If it's a record lock you could do a MONMSG and loop until it is released, There are a lot of others that can be handled this way. What specific error is causing you a problem?
