I understand that an Oracle database allows users to query on several physical databases. Does anyone know if there's a MySQL equivalent? I'm trying to run a query on two tables (which are in two different physical databases). Would it be possible to do this in MySQL?

Yes, it is possible in MySQL.
Lets consider the two different databases as d1,d2 and the two tables as t1,t2.
If you want to run a query on these two tables, then the query is like :
SELECT d1.tl.column name, d2.t2.column name FROM d1.tl,d2.t2; .
