Like CharlieBrowne said it can run a WMS. It can also be used to run many other types of systems, written in many languages. Is there something more specific you had in mind?
I am using AS/400 ver 9 as WMS. The tool is supplied by my Customer. What I have learned is the tool has a lot of limitations at version 9. You are hard pressed to optimize activities and limited by reports in use. What I would like to know, does anyone have a performance above 11LPH? I can not optimize inbound or outbound activities and my customer is pissed off. I am trying to quantify performance with other Warehouse operations who use AS/400 ver 9. Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank You
@Usapaw: Who is the vendor of the WMS software? All WMS software packages have their own tweaks but not knowing how the system is set up and the menus / commands for customizing we can't begin to tell you where to look.
Since there is no "AS/400 ver 9" and since "AS/400s" haven't been sold by IBM since 2000 when they were succeeded by the eServer iSeries, it's hard to be sure what you're asking about. Perhaps you're referring to some WMS software product that is at "ver 9". We would need to know what the WMS product was, and we'd also need to know what the actual "AS/400" model was.
If the system really is an old "AS/400", it might not be modern enough to get much more performance out of it. OTOH, it's almost certain that proper performance tuning has never been done on the system since that's the standard state of perhaps 90% of all of them.

Are you asking is the AS/400 can run Warehouse Management System software? If so, the answer is Yes.
If not, please be more specific in your questions
So to give an answer to your question I would say are you running a software package (or homegrown code) to handle warehouse management.
What does you company do? Are you in the IT department?
