Can you explain you issue with a little more detail? What software are you using? Adobe does allow passwords to protect files. Where are the files currently located and how are they accessed? How does the public gain access to the files currently?

"Public access"? Access to what? If "public access" to a set of files is the concern, then there is no "iBook alternative" that makes any difference. The "public" can use anything it wants to use. The permissions on the files is what's important.

Is it simply that you have files on your personal iPad (or iPhone/iPod) and you don't want anyone else to read them?
