Install lost Internet Explorer

I managed to remove IE (mostly) from a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit machine. When I try and install 10 or 11 it says I have a later version. How can I clean up the machine so IE will install and HELP and Support will work again? It is not in Control Center Program lists.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

From the Programs and Features section (in Control Panel)  click “Turn Windows features on or off”. This should be on the left hand panel, and will populate with a list of features that are available when you install Windows….and you should find Internet Explorer listed in there. Clear the check box, restart, then give your new installation another try.

I'd reinstall Windows and IE. 7 is a good choice. THEN go for the v10 update. I suspect that once all the proper hooks are back in place, Windows will be happier with you.

I would prefer to cleanup the hooks and re-install IE without going through ALL the hassle of an install.  I had the machine built with an OEM copy.

How did you remove IE "mostly" in the first place? Why did you not want anything from the old IE, like bookmarks and such brought over?

It is better to update rather than remove/ uninstall.
