Would I be able to install/boot Linux directly onto my MacBook with a USB stick? Here's the thing - it doesn't have OS X. It was deleted by mistake. Thank you.

Yes, it is possible to install Linux on Macbook. Use flash drive that is at least 2gb or more. Now make this drive Linux bootable/installer as per your choice like Ubuntu/Suse or whatever you like. Remember, resize the partition to whatever size you’d like it to be. (as you mentioned, there is no mac OS). Please link here for whole procedure: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/How%20to%20install%20Ubuntu%20on%20MacBook%20using%20USB%20Stick.

However this procedure requires patience and this is also a bit tedious.
