Inserting single image in OpenOffice 4

Every time I insert a picture, it becomes a patterned background. I've tried both methods I know:
    1. Go to Insert, file, and choose my image on my computer.
    2. I click on the bottom left icon from a set of four icons in the center of the screen.
How do I insert a picture without filling the image area with it being patterned.  I just want to display one image on the screen?

I am extensively using open office, but could not understand your Q! Would you like to more specific, if possible specially focus on these words like "without filling the image area with it being patterned". Please come back with more details.

Thank you for responding to my question.  I do many presentations where I use a single picture, or a caption/title and picture.  So, the layout for my slides is usually "Title, content".  In the content box I choose the "Insert picture" icon (lower left of four grouped icons). After choosing the image I want, the image fills the content box in a tiled format.  So, instead of one image, I get several small versions of the image in a tiled format.  I used to use Open Office fine, but I think I somehow changed the settings or format.  I can't find anything to reverse this problem in the settings or options.

I am able to create a large, single image, but I have to delete the content box in order to do that, and then I insert my image.  Or I insert into a blank layout.  Because I'm able to work around this problem through different methods, it's not the biggest problem.  Still, it would be nice to have the content box be back to how it originally performed.  I hope I explain this adequately.
