I would like to display a PDF in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet - I don't want to embed it. Is that possible? Basically - I just want to see the file in the worksheet. Thanks so much.

You just want to see the PDF file means what, did not you want to save it? Just see that, in current working time, but later is it not necessary? Open the Excel file. Now go to Insert tab and under Text group click Object. On this dialog box, click Create New tab select Adobe Acrobat Document (assuming Adobe Reader is installed) from Object type dropdown. Now make sure that the checkbox is checked the option Display as icon. Click Ok & it opens a dialog box. Select the PDF file which you want to view on Excel. Click Open. This will open the PDF file & it is needed to close it. When you viewed the file you can delete this one before saving the main Excel document.

Are you looking to just get the image or do you want the contents of the PDF split out into Excel cells for other means. IF that is the case you will need special software to convert the PDF into a usable format. I have tried a few and none have worked 100 percent.

If you did mean on-fly work, you can use Desktop setup where it may possible to use split screen feature, provided the screen size supports. But you can only work with one at a time. For this purpose, it is needed to install a pdf reader like Foxit/ Adobe/ Nitro or any other of your choice.
