I5/OS: autECLOIA.WaitForAppAvailable timeout parameter?

Who uses the timeout parameter of this method? And does it work? do we still need to put a wait when the screen takes more time to be ready?
The documentation says it waits for screen to be ready for keyboard input.
In all  the scripts I have seen so far, it was used without the timeout parameter, which as per documentation should wait infinitely.
But I noticed that in some cases, we had to add a wait time in order to avoid macros to move to keyboard input too quickly because the screen was not ready.
Now the reason for that is unclear to me and after talking with the people that created those macros, so far, the only reason I got is to make sure the screen is displayed properly before reading data from it.
Any other ideas on this?
