Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Here is a good link with a lot of set up info and commands to get the process to work. Just embed the send commands, depending on how you want to do it, into a CL.. Send emails from your IBM i

Do you already have a process for sending e-mails on the iSeries? If so, you just need to set up a message monitor for relevant message queue.

I don't know if it is setup. How do we setup a particular job to monitor?

You could add a MONMSG in the CL that runs the job to handle the error. Then send out the emails.

If it's a CL (or even an RPG) program you can access & change I'd recommend ToddN2000's approach.

If you need to monitor a message queue, here are some instructions from a different thread.

If you can modify the program(s) generating the message to monitor for the message, follow ToddN2000's advice.

Details on monitoring a message queue can be found here.

We have a generic job that runs every 15 minutes during business hours and every hour outside of that (simply because I don't want calls every 15 minutes if I can't get to a computer quickly).  During business hours we send to one email address, off hours we use a different email address. Both addresses go addresses on our email server that distribute to inhouse emails (during the day) or sends an sms message (off hours) to multiple recipients. Works well for us. We are looking for jobs with MSGW, LOCKW and also look for jobqs that are backing up.

We handled this in our shop by creating a distribution list on the Outlook server.  It was easy to maintain - no programming required.  You could have a day-time distribution list and the night-time list.
