What did you secure on your drive/computer that you no longer have access to? When you did the re-install of Window 7, was it a clean install to the same partition?

Thanks for the reply. The password protection manager.exe is located in the unlock app drive on hard disk. When I use the hard disk on any computer, this password protection manager(ppm) opens up on its own. When I reinstalled windows 7, I connected the hard disk and this ppm did not open up...I could not see it in the unlock app drive. I did not reinstall windows myself, but I think it was a clean install. I have some office documents in the secure portion of drive

Is the password manager on the internal HD or the Sony external?
It may be who ever did the re-install did not take this into consideration. Is this program/app part of the pre-loaded software from your PC maker?

What is the app? I.e., who makes it? Is this supplied as part of the HDD? Have you contacted the vendor? Any kind of security app is likely to be well understood only by the vendor.

The ppm comes with the Sony HDD. First time when I used it on my PC, it asked me to install it and make the secured partition. I think a copy of the software might have been created on my pc also. However, when I use it on any other PC also, the ppm opens up on its own. Now I can't even see ppm on other PCs.
The Sony customer care was of no help. I have sent the HDD now to the service centre but I am not sure if they will be able to retrieve the data.

    hi

Did you get a solution for this. I have a very similar issue. I (Stupidly) deleted the PPM icon in the partitioned section of the Hdrive and I now cant access the secure partition. I have tried to re-install PPM but it says it will wipe all the data off the drive so I am stuck. Sent a message to Sony support but haven't had a response.

Why did you install Windows 7, was this infected by virus! As you mentioned .exe file is not found, virus might be make a same name icon in the drive & might be virus also deleted the said .exe file. Have you checked it with a good anti virus software first. You can download MWAV for that purpose, it is free.

I too faced the same problem. But I didn't do any installations of OS or any thing. Just one fine morning the Protection Manager disappeared. My lap top is highly secured with licensed Norton Antivirus. I could not find the application in the External hard disk partition. The HD-E1 1TB model of sony really a worst product to believe in. The Sony team has no answer for this problem. I believe, I have to loose almost 800 GB of data.  :-)

Probably, you may insert the hdd to another laptop/pc, while this one is virus affected and that time this hdd got virus, now you again insert into your laptop (which is highly secured by norton) and when it found virus, norton deleted the object from the hdd. Just try to remember if this happened recently.

I have copied the installed unlock app when I locked my HDD.
You just have to copy that folder to unlock app drive and boom. Now you can access pwpm.

    hi..I got the way ..
First copy the unlock app installation file fro your computer to harddisk.
then double click on the app.
choose your harddive location. and click next
Here choose the second option which says" Check for errors and repair".
Remove hardrive and reinsert... BOOM!!!! the icon reappears there

@ARVINDSINGHDEORA, it is better to contact the vendor's customer care/ one of their representative to overcome this issue. However, manufacturer/ model no is required in details. If it is under warranty.

    Friends,

I've found the solution for this issue. Every can try now.
To avoid losing your data, install the Password Protection Manager on another computer by downloading password protection manager setup file online and copy only the EXE file. Transfer it using a USB drive and place the file in its original location(in external hard etc) then launch the software.

@Othman520, why are you asking for Password Protection Manger? What is your problem? 'I have same problem', that does not clear your question. Please read the all discussions and hope you may find some clues.

Not able to do, as all we discussed above. I also have sony HD E1 external hard disk, previous i was using password protection manager in windows 8 for this hard disk but when i install windows 10 pro in my laptop, password protection manager ask to install the software as a fresh start (password hint, password, confirm password). I know my password that i was using in windows 8, but it shows "install the application on the selected drive and then all data stored on the drive will be deleted". What to do guys ?? Please help, my 12 years, my education, PPT, WORD, work documents, pics etc etc are stored in this drive. I am lost seriously :(
