A .bat file is the file extension used for most DOS programs. You can usually open these with any text editor to see what they do. I would recommend doing this before clicking on the file as it may run commands you do not want.

    .bat is an old concept of DOS. If it is .bat extension, it can be opened, if there are some executable commands / programming loops. Check the file with it contains. Open with never comes if the extension is .bat/ has valid contains.

    Be careful because you might expect to open the file by double-clicking on it, as is usually the case with most files. In this case, you will execute it if you double click on it.

    To open it to see its contents you have to select the "edit" option, or open your preferred text editor and from the file menu open the .bat file in question.
