Hp Printer randomly prints some pages in red. All document is formatted in black text. Have replaced ink cartridge and all printer tests are successful.
Have set document to print in black only. Have looked in all device options to find someplace that is wrong but cannot find anything.
Have reinstalled printer driver to make sure it is updated.
Software/Hardware used: Document created in Word 2003 then copy and pasted into Word 2007, particular format (1/2 size page). Using new Sony Vaio with Windows 7 system. Printer is HP PHotosmart C4480
what im thinking is that since it is your trying to print all text in black, im suspecting that there's a problem in your printer itself (mechanically/electronically), and you said you've updated the device driver of the printer..bec when you try to print in black&white only, the printer still tries to mix the colors (red, blue, and etc) to produce a black text output but it's printing a cyan/magenta combination resulting into a reddish text prints, unless your using black cartridges only on your printer that would be a different story, my suggestion send it to the HP tech to let them check what's causing this problem if you still have the warranty of the said printer.
The other thing would be to check if it occurs on all documents or specific ones only. This may point you in the direction of the file or the device to narrow your troubleshooting.
You have already mentioned that you replaced the black cartridge with a new cartridge and you reinstalled the drivers for the printer. You have checked the document to make sure that it is formatted to print all in black, because it may have hidden formatting that is telling it to print red. Does it print red on all documents randomly or on just one? Lastly, there is a distinct possibility that the contact heads for the print cartridges in the printer are damaged. This is not the print cartridges themselves but the the contact points in the printhead in the printer. You have checked them to make sure that they are clean and free of debris. Your printer uses a black cartridge and a tricolor cartridge. You will need to check to make sure that all the connections for both cartridges in the the print head are clean and free of debris. This can be done with a cue-tip. If you have done all of the above then I would suspect that the printer has a physical problem that would have to be handled by an authorized repair place. Note with this issue it may be cheaper to just replace the printer, than repair it.
