What problems have you faced now. Is the card not compatible with ho pavilion/ driver related issues are there. You wanted to upgrade, that's fine, but what are the issues  there. Please come back with more details.

If you don't have idea, so why are you doing all of these, it is better to ask a hardware expert from your nearby area and s/he can help you a lot. If it is under warranty, (assuming video card might be damage/ not worked) you can contact Hp support center for the help. See here more info for your product: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-a1700-Desktop-PC-series/3339280/model/3340221/product-info

It's right to say you shouldn't be doing it if you "have no idea".

More than that, this isn't a forum you should ask questions in. The trouble there is that you are assumed to be an "IT professional" in this forum. From that, we assume that you already have sufficient knowledge to find out basic things like whether or not a given video card is compatible.

If you don't know that kind of thing, we can give very misleading answers because we'll believe that you can fill in gaps in what we say by your own experience.

The HP support forum is a much better one for you. They'll be better able to get things across than we can.

If you are not sure, I recommend you get your friend who is good in computers to take a look at it before purchasing the graphics card.
