That depends on your phone's model/manufacturer. They have separate procedure to track a stolen phone. Please come back with these details.

A lot of them have built in software today to do this. You just need to activate it. It can be found under settings sometimes the option is lost device. I know my Android tablet has this option.
What brand and model are you asking about.

As others have mentioned, must mobile platforms, or operating systems, have nowadays a feature to track a lost phone (if such feature is not built-in, there is most likely an application that can be downloaded from a store), but in most cases, it needs to be turned on, or activated.

If is not activated, there is probably nothing you can do right now.

If it is activated, there is most likely a website you can use to track the lost phone, which will show you the location of the device, if it is available.

Most systems will also give you the option to "wipe" the devices data, for security purposes, but doing that will usually make other features (like tracking the phone location) working.

We could probably give you more accurate suggestions if you post more details about the device and the operating system it has.

Good Point Carlosdl.. I always find it better to be proactive than reactive...not knowing the specific brand and model we can only guess. There may be an active feature we just don't know about. Some phones have features they will "brick" the phone after a few invalid logins. That's a plus if you ever lose it. As for getting your phone back by tracing it? Might be near impossible unless you already have some sort of GPS tracking and that may only get you within a few feet of the phone.

Don't know, but if you have iphone, it has a wonderful feature to recover lost iphone/ erase your valuable data after lost it. Yes, you have to an icloud account and must synchronize the same. This is a good article from Apple, which is here: https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT201472
