Hello - I'm still on a mobile "family plan" with limited data usage. Is there a way to stop Google Chrome from automatically downloading and playing flash videos. It does waste a ton of my data. Thanks.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Go to the autoplay policy via the Chrome address bar.

Type chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy in the address bar.

Then:

The Autoplay policy should be set to Default when you load the page. You’ll need to set the drop box option box to Document user activation is required so that you have to approve any video to play on a website.

Lastly, you’ll need to click on the blue Relaunch Now button found at the bottom of the page. This will restart the Chrome browser and activate the change.

Try this, open Chrome, click three dots or Menu, Click Settings > Advanced and locate for Content settings. Click to access its features. There are several options, search for Flash and toggle on Ask first (recommended) then back to the previous page. Now again look for Automatic downloads, and toggle on Ask when a site tries to download files automatically. Hope this will be helpful.

I feel your pain. That is becoming more of an issue every day. I want to just go to a site to read an article. I do not want ads, commercials or other unwanted videos and all the other garbage. So what do you do? Get an ad blocker, but that works to an extent. Sites today now will say "Oh we found you are using an ad blocker please disable it to continue viewing the site". So the only way you can read the rest is to turn it off. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Reliable way to stop it is by doing it with the help of installing ad-blocker.
